KKSP dispatched volunteers for humanitarian works to West Sumatra

Friday, 30 October 09 | 285 hits | send | print Medan – KKSP Foundation dispatched 2 volunteers to assist humanitarian works in West Sumatra. This team helped the recovery and trauma healing for children in the affected-area.

These 2 volunteers - Peranita Sagala and Solehuddin Nasution were in West Sumatra for a week ( 9 – 16 October 2009). They joined with the I North Sumatra Regional Crisis Center (PPK). This team set up coordination post (Posko) in Sekolah Dasar Islam Terpadu SD IT) Nurul Ilmi in Ampalu Village, North Pariaman sub-district of Pariaman District.

During performing their duties, these volunteers help trauma healing on children who live around the Posko. It was performed in the school and area near the posko.

”The materials are given in classroom and outdoors. The expectation is the children mental to be recovered soon and they could have normal live as before,” says Solehuddin in Medan, Monday (26/10/1009).

Solehuddin is a psychologist staff for KKSP office in Meulaboh, West Aceh, also added that not less than 100 children - students of elementary and secondary schools have received psychological service in some schools. The children are invited to play and have good time.

"The result is quite satisfying, some have restored their joy as before”, says Solehuddin.

Besides performing trauma healing, the volunteer team of KKSP also collecting data on damages resulted by the earthquake on 30 September 2009. (rar)
