Meulaboh – Children in West Aceh, Nanggroe Aceh Darussalam (NAD) urged the government to punish the parents who abandoned their children’s education. The urge is set forth in the declaration resulted from the West Aceh Children Congress.
The congress, besides come up with the declaration which contains points of agreements by children representatives from sub-districts in West Aceh, also set West Aceh Children Forum chaired Iin Farlinda, a second grade student of Madrasah Aliyah Negeri (MAN) I Meulaboh.
In her statement, Farlinda said that in general the points of agreement in the declaration are urges for the government to take serious account the condition of children in West Aceh.
“There are 13 points in total. The issue of punishment for parents who abandoned their children’s education is very crucial so all children will enjoy the education,” says Farlinda to journalist on Thursday (22/7/2010) in Meulaboh, West Aceh.
According to Farlinda, the punishment should come along with the government’s effort empowering the economy of the parents, as well as providing educational supports for the drop outs and disadvantage children. Therefore, no more excuses for parents not to send their children to school.
In the declaration, West Aceh children also demanded the abolition of all kind of corporal punishments in schools, as well as the discriminatory practices of medical services against children in hospitals. It also appeals for the government to keep the sustainable socialization on the importance of protecting children form violence, exploitation and trafficking to the village level.
The declaration is the final part of the Children Congress held on 17 - 18 July 2010 which was attended by 43 children organized by KKSP Foundation (the Education and Information Center for Child Rights) Aceh and Word Vision Indonesia (WVI) West Aceh. However, due to some obstacles, the declaration’s points could be completed today.
It was planned that the declaration will be handed over to the government of West Aceh on the forthcoming celebration of Children Day on 24 July and the dialogue between children and the executive and legislative at the Parliament Building in West Aceh. (*)
